During GDR times the district Prenzlauer Berg was as a place for artists and opposition members to live at. Meanwhile the dilapidated buildings have been renovated and partly the old residents were displaced. There are still many private art initiatives and projects that deal with future urban planning, for example, in the former Pfefferberg brewery or on the former site of Bötzow brewery. There David Chipperfield builds for the medical company Otto Bock on behalf of Hans Georg Nädler a new residential area with art spaces included. Nädler operates as a patron a magnificent showroom on the brewery premises. In the cisterns (in the park of the Prenzlauer Berg water tower) often special acoustic sound experiences are going on. The Kulturbrauerei invites visitors with an extensive cultural program to linger.
